Majority of CHD’s (Like ASD, VSD, PDA) are thought to have some genetic etiology. Approximately 5-6% of CHD’s are due to recognizes chromosomal abnormalities & 3-5% are single gene disorders.

This department is dedicated to genetic research, teaching and services. The major objectives are to develop and use genetic methods to investigate the cause and treatment of  hereditary and acquired illness; understand and explore the impact of genetics on public health and disease prevention; and to appreciate the role of  genetic diversity within human population regarding diseases in children. The research program is more into the basic, applied or clinical genetics on Comngential heart diseases in children.
Dr. K. Sudha

She graduated from Bharathi Vidyapeeth Dental college and hospital, Pune, later developed interest in clinical genetics, so did post graduate diploma in genetic counseling from Kamineni Educational Society, Hyderabad. She presented scientific papers on importance of genetic counselimng in National and International conferences.

She works as a member of the health care team, providing information and support to families who have children with birth defects of genetic disorders and to families who may be at risk for a varieties of inherited conditions. She identifies families at risk, investigate the problem present in the family, interpret information about the disorder, analyse inheritance patterns and risks of recurrence and review available options with the family. She conducts research activities related to the field of medical genetics and genetic counseling.
